Behind the Scenes at the Bob Dylan Center in Oklahoma

Project Team

Overview

The Bob Dylan Center is a deeply immersive museum experience, bringing together archive material, film, and multimedia installations to tell the story of one of the most influential American artists of all time.

Behind the scenes, 7thSense technology plays a critical role in keeping the experience consistent and dependable - delivering reliable, high-quality playback across a range of exhibits throughout the facility day after day.

Background

7thSense first supplied its Infinity Media Server to the Bob Dylan Center in 2021, ahead of its opening to the public in 2022. Working alongside BBI Engineering, Inc., the system was deployed as a central playback server with eight outputs, handling synchronised video across multiple displays.

Since opening, the system has done exactly what it was designed to do – run continuously and reliably. With no interruptions and consistent performance over time, the server has quietly supported the visitor experience without drawing attention to itself.

Ongoing Support & Upgrade

Following several years of uninterrupted operation, the Bob Dylan Center took the opportunity to further strengthen the system by adding a backup server as part of its ongoing support strategy.

7thSense recently supplied an R-Series 8 Media Server to act as a fully-matched backup and replacement unit. The upgrade required no changes to existing media or configuration - everything remains exactly as it was, making the addition straightforward and risk-free.

The R-Series matches the performance characteristics of the original Infinity server, including:

  • 8 outputs
  • Playback at 15360 × 1200 @ 30FPS (8-bit 4:4:4)
  • Media and output bandwidth of 1582 MB/s

It’s a simple step, but an important one. Not because the existing system had shown any limitations, but because the center’s daily operation depends on uninterrupted, high-quality media playback to deliver the story of a great American musician to their visitors.

Outcome

From day one, the system has delivered the reliability expected in a museum environment where high-quality media needs to play flawlessly every day; that reliability remains unchanged.

With the addition of the R-Series server, the Bob Dylan Center now benefits from an added layer of resilience, providing peace of mind for the on-site team while continuing to deliver the same seamless visitor experience.

Dan Larson: Technical Sales Specialist, 7thSense:

“This is exactly the kind of project where reliability matters most. The system’s been running smoothly since it went in, and adding the R-Series server simply strengthens an already proven setup.”

Steven Jenkins, Senior Director, Bob Dylan Center:

"The Bob Dylan Center is a world-class institution for which technical reliability is a top priority. The system’s been running smoothly since it went in, and adding the R-Series server has strengthened our already proven setup.”

Jim Sallee, Principal, BBI Engineering, Inc.:

"7thSense’s combination of power, ease of use, and reliability is what makes it our go-to for high performance applications.”
