Lotte World Adventure Busan – Lori Castle Projection Mapping Show

Lotte World Adventure Busan in South Korea is built around a fairy-tale theme, with Queen Lori’s castle as its centrepiece. Each evening, the castle becomes the backdrop for a large-scale projection mapping show powered by 7thSense Media servers.

The main show runs for around ten minutes and follows the park’s characters on a journey through the magic forest. Throughout the year, the castle also transforms for special versions of the show celebrating spring, Halloween, Christmas and winter. These seasonal editions help set the mood across the park and give guests a fresh visual experience each time they visit.

The overall content direction and system integration were handled by the global design studio d’strict. 7thSense supplied the playback, control and automated calibration technology, while Donghwa AV Co., Ltd., the official 7thSense distributor in Korea, supported the installation and commissioning on site.

System overview

At the heart of the system is the 7thSense R-Series 10™ media server. The R-Series 10™ is a high-performance hardware platform designed for demanding media and generative projects, including projection mapping, large-scale displays and immersive installations. It supports uncompressed video playback, advanced pixel processing and robust control, and is built with professional-grade components for reliability in complex environments. The server harnesses modern PCIe 4.0 technologies and is certified for use around the world, making it suitable for installations like theme parks and attractions where quality and uptime are critical.

The setup uses five projectors: four at 3840×2400 resolution and one at 1920×1200, all driven from a single R-Series 10™. The server delivers five outputs at 60Hz and plays back high-resolution uncompressed content with excellent image quality.

Automatic alignment with Scalable Display Technologies' Atlas

To align the projections accurately across the castle’s detailed architecture, the team used Scalable Display Technologies’ Scalable Atlas™ system. Atlas scans the structure and generates alignment data, automating much of the calibration.

For this project, Atlas™ was used in mesh mode with eye-point mapping based on a 3D model of the castle. Since some parts of the real building differed slightly from the model and nearby lights caused interference, the team added extra masking during capture. Even so, the system achieved highly accurate alignment with very little manual adjustment needed.

Result

The Lori Castle projection mapping show has become a standout attraction at Lotte World Adventure Busan. The combination of uncompressed media playback, automated alignment and a reliable control setup powered by the R-Series 10™ delivers a smooth workflow for operators and an immersive visual experience for visitors. It sets a strong benchmark for projection mapping installations in Korea’s theme park industry.
